November Events

Hi everyone,

Jo and Libby here with a November update. We’d love to see all of your smiling Christmas faces at some great events coming up in November.

But first, a quick update from us.

Lib:
I’ve had my MET Police fitness tests recently (ouch)! Honestly, it wasn’t that bad and really have nothing to complain about as it’s running for about 5 mins in total (seemed like 5 hours). I passed all of them (hooray) and now waiting patiently for February when I can start training! Until then I am carrying on with my insurance internship and attending crim related events, hopefully seeing some of you lovely lot there too!

Hectic life as usual! Forensic Mental Health Msc continues to challenge and fascinate in equal measure. Whereas Crim. focuses on the environmental causes of crime, we’ve been looking at the interaction between genes and environment (unknown territory to me but is...

Employability and beyond

Welcome back to the Criminology Collective for our second blog post, Libby here. Today’s post is all about employability during and after University and how to ensure you are going into the job or course that is right for you. We cannot emphasise enough that a job that may be the right choice for your peers or even the job that ‘sounds right’ may not always be your best fit. Many of you reading this may be in a similar position to us at the moment, just finished University, looking forward to graduation but stuck in a limbo of how to progress. There are two main options after completing your undergrad- either a Masters or full-time employment. Jo chose one and Lib the other option- what’s right for you isn’t always what is right for everyone else.

Welcome to the Criminology Collective UK

A warm welcome from Jo Lear and Olivia da Silva. We are 3rd year undergraduate students studying Criminology at London South Bank University. Over the past 18 months we have developed a concept which we believe is a successful and exciting social business venture.
The Criminology Collective UK (CCUK) was born from a hugely successful university society which has been labelled as the “most vibrant and active criminology student society within BritSocCrim” by Dr Marisa Silvestri, Executive member of the British Society of Criminology.
From this we realised that our passion for student success and engagement was such that we wanted to extend this beyond the confines of our immediate university student network. We want to create a platform where ideas can be exchanged and debated respectfully, we can all learn from each other.
